Behind the Water Series

It started with my phone.

I was scrolling through my photo library looking for painting references for creating original landscape paintings — the way most artists do, hunting for that one shot with the right light or the right mood. And somewhere in the middle of that scroll, I stopped and laughed. Water. Everywhere. Lakes, oceans, rivers, ponds, quiet little waterways tucked between trees. Hundreds of them.

Apparently, wherever I go, I photograph water.

That realization became the Water Series.

Real places, real light

Every painting in this collection is grounded in a real place. Most of them I’ve stood in front of myself — felt the air, watched the light move across the surface, taken in that particular stillness that only water seems to have. Others came from photo references, images that stopped me mid-scroll because something about them just had to be painted.

Headland, Harbor, Pond, Reservoir, Rock, Shore, and Stand are the first seven paintings in the series — each one a 12” x 12” original acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed and ready to hang.

What’s coming next

I’m not done with water. Not even close. I’ll be adding more paintings to this collection soon — Tennessee waterscapes this time, drawn from my own backyard and the places I know best. Local rivers, familiar lakes, the kind of water you grow up beside without ever really looking at it until one day you do. More original coastal paintings that remind me of days at the beach.

I can’t wait to share them.
